MELBOURNE, Fla. (Swimming) – Florida Tech concluded the Division II Fall Showcase on Saturday at the Panther Aquatic Center. The women's team ended fourth overall in the meet with 496 points, while the men's team finished third overall with 641.50 points.
No. 3 Nova Southern took the top spot in the women's bracket at 953 points, while No. 1 Drury (882) and No. 22 Florida Southern (529) earned second and third overall, respectively.
No. 2 Drury finished first in the men's meet with 872 points. No. 3 NSU (757.5 and No. 9 FSC (588) grabbed second and fourth overall, respectively.
The Florida Tech women got off to a strong start on the second day of competition as the 400-medley relay of
Paulina Bjorkbacka,
Savannah Brennan,
Mikaela Barger and
Valentina Carvajal took third place with a time of 3:59.52.
Emanuele Rossi,
Corey Ollivierre,
Adi Davidov and
Victor Rocha Furtado came in second in the men's 400-medley relay with a time of 3:24.31.
In the men's 200-IM,
Yagoh Kubagawa grabbed second place at 1:52.36, just behind Young Tae Seo from Drury (1:52.22) who won the race.
Jose Coiman-Acosta touched the wall at 1:57.18, good for fifth place.
Davidov recorded a third place result in the men's 100-butterfly with a time of 49.98.
In the women's 100-freestyle, Carvajal won the race at 52.00 and barely outpaced Sydney Panzarino from NSU (52.01). Not far behind,
Neta Saar timed 53.31 and grabbed fourth overall.
On the men's side, the Panthers dominated the 100-freestyle with five swimmers placing in the top 10 of the race. Rocha Furtado came in first with a time of 44.49.
Thomas Steenberg and Rossi grabbed the fifth and sixth places with times of 46.17 and 46.73.
Harry Sale and
Filip Dujmic posted times of 47.18 and 47.58, finishing in eighth and ninth places.
Bjorkbacka finished her competition for the weekend with a solid performance, grabbing third place in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:00.46.
Sophomore Carlos Obergon finished sixth in the men's 100-backstroke with a time of 53.96, while
Lukas Burchianti finished tenth (54.71).
Brennan came in fifth in the women's 100-breastroke at 1:06.95, close behind Haley Degrace (1:06.93) from Florida Southern.
In the men's 100-breastroke Ollivierre timed 57.51 for fifth place.
Richard Certuche (1:01.24),
Dominic Allard (1:01.31) and
Bryce Butler (1:01.32) finished eighth through tenth in the race.
The women closed their meet with a fast 200-freestyle relay. Saar,
Carter Juskevich, Brennan and Carvajal came in third with a time of 1:37.74. Drury and NSU tied for first place at 1:35.02.
In the closing event of the Fall Showcase, Rocha Furtado, Sale,
Edward Ilako and Dujmic finished second at 1:22.79 in the men's 200-freestyle relay. Drury grabbed first place, just ahead of FIT, at 1:22.35.
Next up for the Florida Tech men's and women's swimming teams is an away meet at Keiser on Friday, Nov. 10, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
