MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech announces its 2018 Baseball Schedule this morning, where it will host 27 home games at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field, leaving the remaining 24 to be played on the road.
Finishing last season with a 30-20 overall record, the Panthers head into spring with tough list of opponents. The 2018 schedule hosts five teams that were ranked in the 2017 national standings and three conference championship teams that stem from the Sunshine State, Peach Belt, and Great Lakes Intercollegiate conferences.  Â
To open the season, the Panthers head to Dahlonega for a three-day series against North Georgia. Last year the Nighthawks finished 5th in the nation with a 46-12 record, which included a 6-1 win over Florida Tech at Bob Stein Stadium early in the year.
Heading into the home opener on February 17, the Panthers will host Drury University on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. The last time the two teams met in 2015, Florida Tech bested the Missouri squad 6-4 at home.Â
Starting conference play, Florida Tech heads to Tampa to face last year's conference champions. In 2017, Florida Tech took a dominating 14-8 win over the Spartans during the first game of the three-day series, but fell short in both games of the double-header. For the 2018 season, Florida Tech will take on a tough Tampa team on the road starting Friday, Feb. 3 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
In the month of March, FIT will host back-to-back opponents that finished the 2017 season ranked nationally. First, the Melbourne squad will welcome Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern, who finished ranked 20th with a 35-18 record last year. Although the Sharks took the first two games of 2017 series, the Panthers managed to topple NSU 21-5 in Game 3.
Following this year's match-up against Nova, FIT immediately hits Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Monday for a difficult contest against the Northwood Timberwolves. The 2017 GLIAC Champions finished 15th in the nation with a 46-13 record.
During the middle of April, the Panthers endure the heart of conference play. However, from Apr. 13-15 FIT will take on Florida Southern in Lakeland. The Mocs completed the season with 35 wins and 17 losses to rank 26th in the nation. This year, the Panthers will look to take the series against Florida Southern on the road, trying to snap their two-year losing streak since 2016.Â
