Melbourne, Fla. - Recent Florida Tech alum, Tyler Dietz, has signed a contract with the San Diego Padres Organization as an undrafted free agent. Dietz becomes the 19th Panther to sign with a Major League Baseball franchise and the 27th player overall to earn a professional baseball contract at all levels.
During his Florida Tech career, the hard throwing right handed pitcher struck out 31 batters in 30.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a 0.189 batting average against. During the Panthers 2025 campaign, Dietz allowed just 13 earned runs and 12 hits in his 17.1 innings of work.
The Trinity, Florida native spent time this summer in the MLB Draft League after the completion of the 2025 season where he shined in the bullpen for the Williamsport Crosscutters. In his eight appearances in the draft league, Dietz posted a 2-0 record and produced a strong 30.5% whiff rate (swings and misses). His fastball reached a max velocity of 100.1 MPH, the second fastest pitch thrown in the entire league leading up to the MLB draft and signing period.
Tyler Dietz will begin his professional baseball career in the Arizona Complex League and will report to the San Diego Padres Rookie-Level affiliate in Peoria, Arizona (Per Baseball Today).
