Panthers Sweep Series with Double Header Victory

Florida Tech advances to 6-1 after sweeping series with Lincoln Memorial

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Baseball) - Florida Tech dominated over the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters during the double header at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Saturday Feb. 11th. In Game two of the three game series, the Panthers held off the Railsplitters with a 6-4 win; and locked in the sweep with a 9-3 win in the final game.

In game one of the doubleheader, Lincoln Memorial took an early lead with a two run score in the first inning. In the bottom of the third, the Panthers tied the game when Reid Neal hit a single up the middle that brought in Pedro Rivera and Kevin Capella. In the fifth, Florida Tech took the lead and scored two more runs on three hits to seal the inning 4-2. In the sixth, the Railsplitters retaliated and posted another run but the Panthers locked in their lead with two more runs in the seventh when Grant McKown singled through the right side to bring home base runners Neal and John Sternagel. With offensive efforts in the eighth, Lincoln Memorial tried to make a comeback but fell short with only one run to close out the game 6-4. Tyler Deel took the win for the Panthers with five innings pitched, five strike outs, two hits, and two runs against 20 batters faced.

Headed into game three of the series, the Panthers struck first with two runs in the first inning. After a quick LMU run scored in the top of the second, Florida Tech flipped it's switch and scored three runs to dominate the bottom of the second. FIT locked in the win at the bottom of the sixth with three more runs scored to sweep the series. Defensively, the Panthers win was credited to starting pitcher Andy Marzheuser who struck out two in five innings, allowed two runs, and walked just one against 22 batters faced. Brett Porter relieved Marzheuser and took the mound in the sixth where he totaled three strikeouts on nine batters faced.

Neal, credited for the Panthers lead, finished his day going 5-for-8 at the plate between the two games and totaled four runs and three RBI's. Coming closely behind him was McKown who went 6-for-8 and totaled two runs and three RBI's. Sternagel also totaled three runs and 2 RBI's throughout the day. The Panthers together accumulated five doubles and two triples throughout the doubleheader with a total of 25 hits and 15 runs.

The Panthers play again on Wednesday Feb.15th 6 p.m. ET in a contest against Flagler College at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. Fans can access live coverage of the action at floridatechsports.com/live
