MOBILE, Ala. (Baseball) - Florida Tech took one win and one loss against Spring Hill in the double header on Saturday. The games which took place at Historic Stan Galle Field were both a constant struggle of power and skill as the Badgers took game one with a 19-6 victory over the Panthers. However Florida Tech came back and displayed their talents in their 7-0 win against Spring Hill in game two of the day.
In the first game of the day, Spring Hill came in powerfully when they scored their first 10 runs in the first four innings of the game. Florida Tech attempted to answer and make their comeback but fell short by the end of the game. Taking his first loss of the season was starting pitcher
Tyler Deel who managed to strike out five of the 16 batters he faced.
In game three of the series, the Panthers came back with tremendous efforts and scored five of their seven runs in the first three innings. A huge offensive effort in the second inning came from
Trent Masih who doubled down the right field line which brought in two runs. The Panthers managed to shut out the Badgers and only allowed them five hits the entire game. Andy Marzheuser won his second game of the season in the final game of the series when he pitched five innings. Marzheuser tallied eight strikeouts and only four hits with no runs on the 20 batters he faced.
Drew Beyer came in to relieve Marzheuser and only allowed one more hit throughout the rest of the game.
Some notable Panthers are Dan Szpik, who went 2-for-4 on the day and collected two runs and two RBI's as well as his first home run of the season.
Grant McKown also did well, going 5-for-7 at the plate through the day as well as accumulated two runs and three RBI's. The Panthers together accumulated 21 hits and 13 runs as well as four doubles and four stolen bases.
