MELBOURNE, Fla. (Baseball) - Florida Tech (22-14) defeated Embry-Riddle (12-26) in an impressive outing on Thursday night at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.Â
The Panthers collected eight runs off of nine hits, while holding the Eagles to just three runs and five hits. West Coast native
David Wilson sparked at the plate, as the senior went 3-for-4 in the evening event with one RBI.Â
The game ran scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when second baseman
Trent Masih singled to right center and brought
Ryan Sinzenich home.Â
The Eagles retaliated in the top of the third, as they grabbed two runs. However, the Panthers answered immediately, tying the game up on a passed ball.
In the fifth, the Crimson and Gray clawed two more runs and overlapped Embry, 4-2.
David Wilson brought in the first run with a single up the middle, while Sinzenich drove a single to the left side to bat another run in.Â
Florida Tech burst again in the seventh, as
Grant McKown and
Reid Neal combined to bring home two runs, while some Eagles uncertainties allowed the FIT runners to reach home and bump up the margin, 8-2.Â
Eventually, Embry-Riddle put itself on the board again with one run but the Panthers defense quickly smeared any chance of possible comeback and closed the game, 8-3.
Starting pitcher
Ty Cohen earned his sixth seasonal win, as he struck out five and allowed two runs on five hits in eight complete innings pitched.
