Florida Tech Ousts Lynn in SSC Semifinals

Carson Clough tallied four goals and three assists to lead FIT back to the SSC Championships Game.

TAMPA, Fla. (Men's Lacrosse) – Carson Clough recorded a season-high seven points to guide Florida Tech to a convincing 13-6 victory over No. 3 seed Lynn in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament on  Friday.

Clough finished with four goals and three assists against the Fighting Knights. Logan Sweeney had a strong outing from the midfield, finishing with three goals on five shots, while Nick Wynne tallied a goal and two assists. Dylan Riley and Matt Weinstein contributed one goal and an assist, apiece.

Nate Menninger led the Panthers defensively with three caused turnovers to go along with two ground balls. Jake Pierson led the team with five ground balls and Daniel Flock made 13 saves in goal in the victory. Lance Pavlina controlled his attempts at the faceoff dot, going 9-of-13 with four ground balls.

Lynn opened the scoring with a goal by Tully Wise. The Panthers answered with three consecutive tallies by Clough, Sweeney and Austen Zugelter to put FIT ahead 3-1 with 3:58 left in the first quarter.

Florida Tech increased its lead to 8-4 following second quarter goals by Robert Filipow, Wynne and Clough. However, a goal by LU's Mikey Urso with 2:46 left in the period made it an 8-5 game heading into halftime.

Weinstein scored the only goal of the third quarter, off an assist from Riley, and expanded the Panthers' advantage to 9-5.

Johnny Gavin's goal to start the fourth period scoring cut the Fighting Knights' deficit to three with12:02 remaining. However, the Panthers scored the final four goals of the contest to shut the door on Lynn's chances and propel themselves into the SSC Championships Game for the second time in program history.
