Panthers Drop to Eagles in Home Opener

Florida Tech handed second loss of the season

Melbourne, Fla. (Volleyball) - After kick starting the conference play against Rollins on Friday night, Florida Tech (3-2, SSC 1-1) came up short against Embry-Riddle (3-2, SSC1-1), falling in three sets at the Clemente Center on Saturday afternoon (25-15, 25-17, 25-21).

During the afternoon match, the Panthers hit just .155 and succumbed to 45 Eagles kills. As a team, FIT racked up 42 digs, 33 kills, three blocks, five aces and 33 assists.

Junior middle blocker Olivia Hersey paced Florida Tech with 11 kills on 20 attempts for a .400 clip. Junior outside hitter Kelly Germain finished with 10 kills on .121 hitting percentage and two serving aces. Freshman outside hitter Brianna Garza chipped in with four kills and four digs.

Senior setter Kiersten Rosa recorded 26 assists, eight digs and one block, while sophomore libero Kyra Atkinson collected 13 digs and one service ace.

Freshman right side hitter Tania Kottke recorded a season-high of .286 clip with two kills on seven attempts. Sophomore setter Sheila Villagrasa notched five assists and three digs with one service ace.

Florida Tech returns to the Clemente Center next week on Friday, Sept.15 to face Barry University. The Panthers and Buccaneers will square off at 7 p.m. ET.
