MELBOURNE, Fla. - In a complete team effort, No. 24 Florida Tech men's soccer moves to 8-2 on the year and 4-2 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Eagles of Embry-Riddle (2-5-1, 1-4-1 SSC) were the Panthers latest victims as they won 1-0.
Aymerick Berald-Catelo collected his second straight clean sheet and third of the season with the help of his savvy back line. This pushed Berald-Catelo into a tie for fourth in the conference in shutouts and first in goals against average (.600).
The first 10 minutes of action were all in favor of the Eagles but once the Crimson and Gray settled in the momentum shifted and never swung back. The men would dictate the action as they keep the ball in their attacking end for most of the contest and the shot count reflected that with a 10-1 advantage at the half.
One of those 10 shots decided the game as
Per Henrik Nag managed to redirect a
Solomon Wheatley shot and left the Eagle's keeper grasping at air. This marked Nag's nine goal of the season thus giving him sole possession of second in the SSC for both goals and total points (19).
The final half of the match was a bit more closely matched as Embry-Riddle desperately tried to get on the board and took some long shots in attempts to make that come true. But, only one of their four truly had a chance of finding the back of the net.
Florida Tech still held the shots advantage in the final 45 as they took five and had a few more shots and a goal waved off due to offsides calls.
The Panthers will look to carry this excellent form into next Saturday, Oct. 13, when they head down to Miami Shores, Florida for an SSC match with Barry. The start time for the contest is set for 6 pm ET.
