Panthers Stifled by Mountain Lions, 8-5

Logan Sweeney finishes with two points as FIT falls to Young Harris in home opener

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Florida Tech men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener against Young Harris, 8-5, on Sunday at Panther Stadium. The Panthers move to 0-2 on the season while YHC improves to 1-3.

Logan Sweeney led FIT with two points and was one of five Panthers to score a goal in the game. Addison Abramson, Carson Clough, Tajee Mobley and Brett Pohlmeyer also tallied goals in the contest.

In addition to scoring a goal, Abramson finished with a team-high three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Daniel Flock (0-2) made 18 saves and allowed eight goals while facing 37 total shots. The Panthers' struggles at the faceoff x were the difference in the game as Lance Pavlina and Ryan Land combined to go 6-for-17.

YHC finished with more ground balls, 32-30, and both teams ended with 12 turnovers.

Chandler Bradley, who had three points for the Mountain Lions, tallied the first goal of the game late in the first quarter. Hayes Johnson tacked on another just 1:01 into the second to give YHC a 2-0 lead.

Sweeney found Mobley for the Panthers' opening goal at the 11:06 mark of the second.

Bevan Pate then pushed YHC's advantage back to a pair, 3-1, but consecutive goals by Sweeney and Clough over a 47 second span tied the game at 3-3 heading into halftime.

A 3-0 spurt by Young Harris during the third quarter, including a pair of goals by Matty Ledon, increased its lead to 6-3.

Looking to give his team a spark, Abramson caused a turnover in FIT's defensive half, gathered the loose ball and scored on the other end, trimming the Panthers' deficit to two, 6-4.

Bruce Silk pushed YHC's edge back to three, 7-4, with 2:40 to go but Florida Tech answered 50 seconds later on a rocket shot on the run by Pohlmeyer.

Pate then sealed the game for Young Harris with an empty net goal with 43 seconds remaining.
