Panthers Fall to Sailfish in a Nailbiter

A late Palm Beach Atlantic run sinks Florida Tech on the road

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Tech continued it stretch of road contests as they headed down to West Palm Beach, Florida to face conference foe Palm Beach Atlantic in a regional game. The team would find themselves locked into a defensive battle against the Sailfish that would see only a total of 12 hit combined by the two teams. Unfortunately, FIT would find itself on the losing end with the final score being 3-2 in a back and forth affair that saw both teams lead at various points in the night.

Five members of the Crimson and Gray would register hits in the game leading first to reach the bag for the team was Vincenzo Catanza. James Gronberg, Jacob Buser, Raul Quintero and Rodnie Bernard would also reach base safely at some point in the evening. The team would also reach base five more times thanks to two walks, two hit batters and one PBA error.

The Panthers would jump out to an early lead when Catanza sent a shot to a gap in left center that allowed Ryan Sinzenich to score the run in the top half of the second inning. However, the Sailfish would tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom half of the same inning before taking their first lead of the game off a Connor Rowland double scoring Mike Santaromita in the third.

The Panthers would even it up in the fifth when Daniel Szpik grounded out to the second baseman, which allowed Gronberg to cross home plate. The scoring would slow down as the relief pitching of Jordan Murray and the Sailfish's tandum of Tyler Hawkes and Mikhail Cazenave would shut down the bats of both squads. PBA would finally break the three-inning drought when Jake Summey would reach home safely in the bottom half of the eighth, which would be enough to ensure them the win.

FIT will look to rebound when they invite Eckerd to Andy Seminick – Les Hall Field. The first pitch of the weekend series is set to take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 2. You can follow the action live on FloridaTechSports.com or on the SSC Digital Network.
