Four Panthers Tabbed to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Kayla Hergott, Neta Saar, Thomas Steenberg and Logan Sweeney represent their respective programs on the Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Teams




MELBOURNE, Fla. – Four Florida Tech student-athletes were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Representing the Panthers on the District 5 At-Large Teams are women's tennis' Kayla Hergott, women's swimming's Neta Saar, men's swimming's Thomas Steenberg and men's lacrosse's Logan Sweeney.
 
Hergott, who wrapped up her collegiate tennis career a few weeks ago, boasts a 3.91 grade point average while majoring in biomedical engineering and earning a master's degree in engineering management at the same time. She was recognized as a Distinguished Student Scholar for Biomedical Engineering as a junior. This year was a member of the senior design team that won Best in Show in Biomedical Engineering and the Outstanding Award in Design and Innovation.
 
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Hergott won 13 singles matches and went 13-8 in doubles this season. A two-time captain of the women's tennis team, Hergott finished up her career ranking second in school history for singles victories (77) and ninth in doubles wins (60). She was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and is a four-time recipient of the SSC Commissioner's and FIT Athletic Director's Honor Rolls.
 
Saar, who graduated from Florida Tech with a perfect 4.00 GPA in accounting, was a four-year member of the Florida Tech women's swimming team. She was selected a Distinguished Student Scholar at FIT as a junior and garnered the Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Senior Awards from the College of Business in consecutive years. The Haifa, Israel product is also a member of the Delta Mu Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies.
 
Tabbed to the SSC Commissioner's and FIT Athletic Director's Honor Rolls every year at Florida Tech, Saar ended her swimming career as a member of Florida Tech's school-record 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relays.
 
Steenberg, who earned a 3.97 GPA while majoring in business administration and entrepreneurship, was a member of the Florida Tech men's swimming team the last four years. He received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the College of Business and was recognized as FIT's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2017-18. The Skodsborg, Denmark product was a four-time recipient of the SSC Commissioner's and FIT Athletic Director's Honor Rolls during his career.
 
Steenberg helped FIT win the 2018 SSC Championship in the 400 Freestyle Relay in addition to placing seventh in the 100 Freestyle and 14th in 200 Freestyle at the conference meet. He was also a member of the 400 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle Relays that finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the 2018 NCAA Championships. Over his career, Steenberg was a four-time First Team All-American and was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American and a CSCAA All-American in 2017.
 
Sweeney, a junior chemical engineering major who boasts a 3.92 GPA, has been a consistent starter for the Florida Tech men's lacrosse team the past three years. His academic prowess has earned Sweeney membership to the Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma and Tau Beta Pi Honor Societies. He has three-times been named to the SSC Commissioner's and FIT Athletic Director's Honor Rolls as well as Florida Tech's Dean's List.
 
A native of Sykesville, Maryland. Sweeney has been named to the All-SSC First Team twice during his career, including this past season when he led the Panthers in scoring with 39 points on 27 goals and 12 assists.

The All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. Hergott, Saar, Steenberg and Sweeney all earned First Team All-District honors and will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams being announced in June.
