Daytona Beach, Fla. (Volleyball)- Panthers go one and one on the last day of the Labor Day Tournament. In the first match, Florida Tech (3-5) fell in three straight sets against Bentley University, but were able to salvage the day by defeating Oklahoma Baptist in four sets in the second match (19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14).
In match one, the Panthers collected a total of 32 kills, 30 assists and 45 digs, but were unable to find a rhythm against Bentley University. However, in match two, Florida Tech was able to make an adjustment and put together a performance that included a total of 54 kills, 53 assists and 106 digs. The panthers had a collective .225 hitting percentage marking it the highest in the season so far.
In match two, the Panthers were led defensively by senior
Becca Bower who recorded 18 digs and five kills. In addition, junior
Sheila Villagrasa and
Kyra Atkinson were able to obtain 20 digs each, which led to the Panthers victory.
Offensively, senior
Audrey Keenan recorded 14 kills on 46 attempts for a hitting percentage of .239 in the second match. Also, senior
Heather Bowersox had a good showing with 14 kills on 42 attempts for a hitting percentage of .262.
The Crimson and Gray will be back Sep. 7 against the Tampa Spartans for their first conference game of the season. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Tampa, Fla.
