MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech men's soccer (8-0-1, 4-0-1 SSC) continued its stellar form as the Panthers pushed past the Florida Southern Moccasins, 3-1, thanks to an extraordinary final 10 minutes.
Erlend Hafstad Eikeland,
Per Henrik Nag and
Ellis Hudson all found the back of the net in the final 10 minutes of play. While
Robbie Madden (1),
Stian Hagboe Olsen (2) and
Guillermo Segovia (1) all had at least one assist.
Keeper,
Jason Fesquet, had another solid performance in the net as he registered three saves and allowed only one goal.
The first half was a struggle for the Panthers as they came out the gate extremely slow and it showed in the shot total as the Mocs held a 9-1 edge at halftime. However, none of those shots were good enough to find their way past a goalie so the game went into the break, 0-0.
The second half was when both attacks made their chances count. Florida Southern struck first off a deflected ball from a free kick in the 56
th minute. Things seemed like they we're going the Mocs way as the time transversed the 80-minute mark as they still held the 1-0.
But Florida Tech then showed why they deserved the No. 5 ranking in the country as the Panthers rattled off three goals in less than six minutes.
Eikeland scored the equalizer at 82:51 and only 2:15 later Nag buried the game winner. Hudson got in on the fun at the 88:09 mark as his insurance goal put the team up 3-1 as time expired.
The Crimson and Gray will now get a much needed rest as they will not be back in action for a week. Once they return to the pitch they will square off with Saint Leo on Saturday, Oct. 19. This match is set for 7 p.m. ET at Rick Stottler Field.
