Melbourne, Fla. - Florida Tech volleyball hosted Barry University on breast cancer awareness match, DigPink.
Before the match, the Panthers honor former athletics business manager Joey Simciak and mother of Florida Tech Alumni
Becca Bower, Kerri Bower, for exemplifying the strength and inspiration to all those who fight against breast cancer.
During the match, Florida Tech recorded 42 kills, 34 assists, five serves aces, 10 blocks, and 102 blocks.
Set One
Tech had a back and fourth battled with the Buccaneers early in the set. Later in the set, Barry took an 13-11 lead over the Panthers. However, Florida Tech responded with an 11-6 run to win the set 25-21.
Tania Kottke had a very good first set recording six kills on 13 attempts for a .385 attacking rate.
Set Two
Florida Tech started very similar to the previous set. Tech was able to take a 7-6 lead over Barry on a kill by
Christina Mayberry. The transfer also helped the Panthers tie and take the lead with back-to-back kills making it 18-17. Unfortunately, the Panthers were not able to hold the lead as Barry went on an 8-3 run to take the set 25-21.
Mayberry had three important kills for the Panthers and had a hitting percentage of .750.
The Panthers defense was led by
Sheila Villagrasa who collected eight assists and 10 digs during set two.
Set Three
The Buccaneers took a commanding lead over the Panthers early in the set with a 6-3 point run. Tech was unable to cut Barry's lead as they fell 25-16.
Florida Tech collected nine kills, seven assists, and 26 digs during the set.
Set Four
Florida Tech was not able to get in a rhythm in the set as Barry took a commanding 14-5 lead. The Panthers ended up falling 25-12 in the set.
Audrey Keenan collected four kills on eight attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.

The Panthers are back tomorrow against Palm Beach Atlantic at 4 p.m. Tomorrow is free admissions at the Clemente Center as Florida Tech celebrates community day.
