Melbourne, Fla. - On March 8, the Panthers faced the Purple Knights in a doubleheader game. The first game was played all nine innings in which Florida Tech took a 10-0 victory. In the Second game, the Panthers momentum continued has they won 9-0 over Bridgeport in seven innings of play.
In the first game,
Andrew Marzheuser continued to pitch very well for the Panthers. The right hander pitched 7.1 innings allowing four hits and no run scored. He also recorded a season high 10 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Panthers had got an early lead by a double of the bat of
Jacob Buser that scored
Rodnie Bernard and a single by
Jakob Newton that scored Buser.
The game was kept close by the Purple Knights as they holed the Panthers to three runs through six innings. However, in the seventh the Panthers scored six run and took a commanding lead.
Pedro Rivera recorded an RBI with a very well place push bunt scoring
Raul Quintero. Quintero was back in the lineup today after a hand injury in the Tampa series. The Weston native went 3-for-3 on his first game back with a run scored.
Bernard went 3-for-4 for the Panthers with two run scored. Buser continues to be a threat for the Panther offense as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and two run scored. Newton recorded two RBI's today with a couple of base hits in four trips to the plate.
In the second game, Greg Berkemeier handed the ball to the number two starter
Colin Cristello. Cristello pitched a phenomenal complete seven inning shutout. The right hander carried a perfect game until the fourth inning. He gave up only one hit in seven innings of work and recorded eight strikeouts on his second win of the season.
The Panther offense continued to perform as they recorded 12 hits on 28 at bats for a .429 team batting average.
Brett Parrish went 2-for-2 with three RBI's and one run scored. Rivera continues to swing a hot bat as he recorded one hit in three at bats with two RBI's.
Dylan Owens contributed to the Panther win as he went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two run scored.
The Panthers extend their winning streak to six games as they look to close out the series tomorrow. The final game of the three game series is schedule for tomorrow at 1 p.m. Links for live coverage will be provided at FloridaTechSports.com.
