Panthers Win Series Against Mocs

Melbourne, Fla. - The Panthers went up against Mocs for game three of the weekend series. Florida Tech after falling to Florida Southern on game one were able to win the series. The final score of the last game was 12-2. 

The game three starter for the Panthers was Rhett Willis who pitched five innings allowing two hits, no runs, and seven strikeouts on the win. Willis improves his season record to 3-1. Matt Dinenna earned the save for the Panthers pitching four innings allowing two hits, two runs, and two strikeouts. This is Dinenna first save of the season. 

Offensively, the Panthers bats were on fire today collecting 16 hits on 40 at bats for a .400 batting average as a team. Every Panther on the starting lineup had at least a hit in the victory.  

The leadoff hitter for the Panthers, Rodnie Bernad, continues to swing the bat very well. The Tampa native went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored and increased his hitting streak to six games. With this performance Bernard now ranks seventh in the Sunshine State Conference in batting average (.368). Also, he ranks fifth in hits and sixth in doubles in the SSC. 

The Panther center fielder, James Gronberg, went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs increasing his batting average to .346. 

Jacob Buser continues to deliver in tough situations for the Panthers. Buser hit two doubles in today's game one of them coming in the first inning that allowed the Panthers to take a two run lead in the first. Buser remains the doubles leader in the SSC (15). Also, he ranks third in runs batted in with 44 in the SSC. 

Blaise Maris recorded two hits today both of them being home runs. Maris went 2-for-5 with two runs, four RBI's, and two home runs. The Panther catcher now ranks fifth in the SSC in the home run category (7). 

Vincenzo Catanza, making the start in left field, recorded his second home run of the season in today's victory. He went 1-for-5 with a run and two RBI's in today's victory. 

The Crimson and Gray will hit the road on Thursday, March 18. They will face SSC opponent Saint Leo University starting at 6 p.m.
