MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech men's soccer pushed its win streak to six straight to start the season as they take down the defending national champions Barry. The men won the match with a score of 2-1 as the team scored netted a penalty kick with only 1:23 left in regulation.
Guillermo Segovia (5) was the Panthers main attacking as he scored both of Florida Tech's goals. Per Henrik Nag was the sole member to tally an assist.
Jason Fesquet (6-0) continued his amazing play in goal as he recorded two saves against one goal allowed.
The Crimson and Gray kicked off the game in high gear as the men found chances on goal early and often. The team converted one of these chances in 17th minute as Segovia slotted one off a Nag through ball.
Despite many great chances by the Panthers in the remaining minutes of the first the score held at 1-0 as the teams left the field.
The second half half was more of the same as Florida Tech was the aggressor but Barry was the next to score as the Bucs found the back of the net on a spectacular shot from 25 yards out.
The Bucs goal did not derail the Panthers momentum though as they picked it up and looked to break the 1-1 tie.
Many in in the crowd thought it would come when Luca Campanini lined up for a penalty kick but the Bucs keeper made the diving save to keep it knotted up. But another Barry mistake in the box set up what would be the game winner as Segovia drew the foul that led to his successful penalty kick with 1:23 left.
This is put the final score of the game at 2-1 as Tech moved to 6-0 on the season.
The Panthers will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 5, when they head to Nova Southeastern. This match is set to start at 6 p.m. and will take place in the NSU Soccer Complex.
