MIAMI SHORES, FLA. - Florida Tech baseball wrapped up the series against #13 Barry on Saturday afternoon at Feinbloom Field. The Panthers had a heartbreaking loss in the 12th inning in game one (2-1). In-game two, Tech was not able to hold the Bucs as they were defeated 11-2.
GAME ONE
Boris Villa started the game and had an amazing outing for the Panthers. The junior pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just two Bucs hits and ended with a 109 pitch count. Villa collected nine strikeouts in the no-decision. The right-hander now leads Tech with 33 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.
Blake Beyel had a great relief appearance pitching 4.1 innings allowing just two hits. Beyel was responsible for the two runs that scored in the bottom of the 12th that gave the Bucs the win.
Offensively, Raul Quintero continues to be the best hitter for Florida Tech. Quintero added to more hits on four at-bats with a walk.
Dylan Owens recorded a hit in the top of the 12 inning that later resulted in a run due to a Buc throwing error.
Blaise Maris extended his hitting streak to five games with a bunt single in the top of the second inning.
GAME TWO
Tech tallied two runs on 12 hits, two RBI's, a walk, and left 12 runners on base. The Bucs had a four-run lead by the third inning and continued to extend their lead throughout the game.
Rodnie Bernard went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
Brett Parrish recorded two hits in game two with an RBI and a stolen base. Jakob Newton collected two hits in four at-bats. Newton with today's performance is now hitting .282 on the year.
Quintero, Owens, Maris, Tyler Brown, Josh Ford, and Alec Eldridge collected a hit apiece for the Crimson and Gray. Maris, Brown, and Eldridge registered a double in the game and Ford added an RBI to his credit.
NEXT
The Crimson and Gray will be back Monday, March 9 as they head to Winter Park for a neutral site game against Malone. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
