Florida Tech Drops Road Test at Florida Southern

Panthers second half effort not enough to defeat the Mocs

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final:
Florida Tech 1, Florida Southern 2
Records: Florida Tech (4-4, 1-3 SSC) | Florida Southern (2-6-3, 1-1-1 SSC)
Locations:  Barnett Athletic Stadium | Lakeland, Fla.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Florida Southern held most of the momentum in the first half, holding a 7-2 shot advantage over the Panthers.
  • The Mocs first goal came in the 19th minute followed by a second goal just six short minutes later to lead at the half 2-0.
  • Florida Tech came out hot in the second half scoring within the first two minutes after a Juan Masqueda pass into the box went off a Mocs' foot straight to Guillermo Segovia who was able to head the ball in for the score.
  • The Panthers worked for the equalizer getting six more shots off but ultimately came up short.
  • Florida Southern lead in shots 11-9 while the Panthers had a 6-1 advantage in corners.
  • Nick Brady was credited with three saves on the day.

COACHES CORNER:
"We were lacking in too many areas for the first 45 minutes" said Chan "Southern was on the front foot. We had to up the tempo of the game significantly going into the second half. The guys responded with the level of commitment and effort that we expect and need every time we step on the field, we got the early goal and had good momentum but ultimately it was too big of a hole that we'd dug ourselves in."

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 9-5-2 all-time against Florida Southern
  • The 2-1 loss is the smallest margin of victory in the series for the Mocs
  • Segovia now ranks No. 1 in the SSC for points averaging 2.00 per game

UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns home Wednesday, Oct. 13 to host Eckerd in an SSC match-up at 7 pm.
