MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech opened the season against Lynn University on Saturday morning at the Panther Aquatic Center. The Panthers came out on top defeating the Fighting Knights 181-81.
In its first meet in 362 days, the Panthers had incredible performances and were able to start the season 1-0.
"Winning the first meet speaks volume about how these athletes have responded to the challenges they've faced these past 12 months", said Head Coach David Dent. They came in every day and worked hard, even when we didn't know how the season would go. This was a great way to start our shortened season, but we aren't done yet".
Tech recorded their first victory of the year in the 200-yard medley relay. Daniel Aizenberg, Nathaniel Boccuzzo, Max Martino, and Jandre Moll gave the Panthers the first win of the season.
Josh Davis had his first individual win in the 1000-yard free (10:03.73).
Daniel Aizenberg collected his first individual win in the 50-yard backstroke (22.75), passing his seed time of 24.22. Aizenberg second win came in the 100-yard backstroke (50.46) setting another personal best in the event.
Jandre Moll registered a first-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (26.35). Moll recorded another win in the 100-yard free (45:91) adding nine points to the Panthers' scores.
In the 100-yard butterfly, John Fonnotto came up on top with a 51:08 finish giving the Panthers another first-place finish.
Max Martino gave Florida Tech another win in the 50-yard free with a time of 21:28. Martino's second win came in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 23.07.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Nathaniel Boccuzzo picked up his second win recording a time of 58.12.
Florida Tech registered another relay win the 200-yard free (1:24.55) with Jandre Moll, Max Martino, Farran Barker, and Daniel Aizenberg.
Through 28 events, the Panthers collected 331 points as a team in the home opener victory.
Tech will be back on Friday, February 26th to face Rollins Collage. More information will be released as we approach the scheduled date.
