MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech opened the season against Lynn University on Saturday morning at the Panther Aquatic Center. The Panthers came out on top defeating the Fighting Knights 150-111.
In its first meet in 362 days, the Panthers had incredible performances and were able to start the season 1-0.
"Winning the first meet speaks volume about how these athletes have responded to the challenges", said Head Coach David Dent. They came in every day and worked hard, even when we didn't know how the season would go. This was a great way to start our shortened season, but we aren't done yet".
Tech recorded their first victory of the year in the 200-yard medley relay. Kennedy Nolan, Emma Oleniczak, Nicole Rautemberg, and Shaelyn Rutta gave the Panthers the first win of the season.
Savannah Brennan continues her incredible career as a Panther recording four first-place victories in today's opener. Brennan's first-place finishes came in the 1000-yard free (10:28.13), 500-yard free (5:06.63), 200-yard IM (2:08.82), and 200-yard free relay (1:39.52). The 200-yard free relay was a collective effort by Nolan, Rutta, Rautemberg, and Brennan.
Nicole Rautemberg collected her first win of the year in the 200-yard free (1:53.08), just shy of her seed time of 1:53.03. Her second individual win came in the 100-yard free (52:72) improving her seed time of 53.00.
Kennedy Nolan's first individual win came in the 100-yard butterfly (59:08) and recorded a second-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (26.78).
Shaelyn Rutta collected a win the 50-yard free with a time of 25.04.
Tech will be back on Friday, February 26th to face Rollins Collage. More information will be released as we approach the scheduled date.
