Melbourne, Fla. - Florida Tech hosted #2 University of Tampa on Friday afternoon at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. The Spartans snap a Panther six-game winning streak taking game one 7-1.
The Spartans quickly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a double to right-field.
Florida Tech made it a 1-1 game on a groundball RBI by Jakob Newton to score the Panther catcher, Blais Maris. Tampa came across to score in the next inning, making it a 2-1 ball game with a sacrifice bunt to third base.
In the top of the 5th, the Spartans increased their lead 3-1 on a Panther balk. Tampa again scored on Panther bases-loaded wild pitch to make it a 4-1 game.
In the 8th, the Spartans two runs on back-to-back singles to right-field and a Panther error to extend their lead 7-1.
Jakob Newton went 2-for-4 with the only RBI for Florida Tech.
Blaise Maris went 1-for-2 with a run, while Brett Parrish, Rodnie Bernard, and Paul Castillo recorded a base hit in today's game.
Boris Villa started the Florida Tech game, pitching five innings, five hits, three runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. Villa posted 110 pitches in today's loss.
Andres Rodriguez pitched 2.2 innings allowing five hits, four runs, three walks, two strikeouts in 57 pitches (38 strikes).
Luis Moriyon relieved Rodriguez in the 8th and recorded a big out for the Panthers to end the inning.
