Saint Leo, Fla. - After winning the series opener at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field last night, Florida Tech clinched a series win against Saint Leo on the road. The Panthers split the doubleheader in today's game at the Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
Game 1
The first game started with a first pitched home run by Raul Quintero to left field. The senior posted another multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with a run, two RBIs, and two walks to extend his hitting streak to six games. The Panthers were able to score three more after the home run on a Brett Parish RBI single, a Blaise Maris fielder's choice, and an RBI double to center by Alec Eldridge.
The Lions were able to get a run back in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Trinkle.
Saint Leo tallied a couple of runs in the fourth with a two-RBI single by Crail.
The Lions, in the next inning, tied the game four runs apiece with a Torres RBI single.
Florida Tech responded in a big way in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI single up the middle by Parrish to scored Rodnie Bernard and Jakob Newton. After a Lions ' wild pitch, Parrish came across the plate to make it a 7-4 game.
Tech scored two more in the eighth after an RBI single by Quintero and a Newton sacrifice fly that scored Sam Schner. Saint Leo got a run back in the bottom half on a triple, but Alex Carpenter out of the bullpen put an end to the Lions' potential rally.
Eldridge had another RBI double to center that scored Matt Dinnenan to make it a 10-6 game.
Blake Beyel was the pitcher of record and recorded his first win of the season. Carpenter registered his fourth save of the year after two strikeouts and a fly-out to end the game.
Game 2
Florida Tech again took the lead in the first after an RBI single by Dylan Owens to score Newton.
The Lions answered back, starting the second inning with a triple down the right field line. The run came across to score after a ground out by Coumoulos. Saint Leo got another one with a double to left field by Niemann.
The Lions extended their lead with a couple of singles in the third to make it a 5-1 ball game.
In the fourth, Saint Leo added two more after two RBI singles by Crail and Vander Wal.
Florida Tech offense erupted after an eight-run spot in the top of the fifth to take the lead. The first run came after an Owens RBI walk to score Quintero. The next four runs came from the bat of Parrish after launching a grand slam to center field to cut the Lions lead to one run. Schner two-RBI double to right field gave the Panthers an 8-7 lead.
The Lions answered right back in the bottom half with a two-RBI double to left by Niemann to retake the lead 9-8.
Saint Leo pull away after scoring three runs in the sixth inning to make it a 12-8 game.
