MELBOURNE, Fla. - The 2022 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's Soccer All-South Region Teams were announced on Tuesday, and two Panthers were among the list of honorees.
May Queiroz was named to the All-South Region First Team while Jojo Michaels was voted to the second team. Both players are receiving All-South Region honors for the second consecutive year. Queiroz was named to the second team in 2021 while Michaels was All-South Region first team a year ago.
Queiroz, senior midfielder out of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, started all 15 games she played in 2022. She led the Panthers in goals this season with seven and in points with 15. Queiroz throughout the season came up big for Tech with four game-winning goals. This stat ranked her second in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Twice this season, Queiroz scored two goals in a match, the first coming in a 3-1 win over Eckerd in September then the latter in a 2-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic. With her impressive season, she earned All-SSC First Team honors and SSC All-Tournament team honors.
Michaels, a senior defender out of Merritt Island, Florida made 16 appearances while starting 14 of them in 2022. She anchored a strong defense that only allowed more then one goal this season once. As a team, the Panthers Goals Against Average was .82 which was fourth in the SSC. Moving up from defense, Michaels scored her first career goal in the 2-0 win over Nova Southeastern in September. Michael's strong season for Tech earned her All-SSC First Team honors.
The 13 first-team honorees will now advance to the national ballot, eligible for D2CCA All-America honors. The announcement of all the All-America teams will be made Nov. 30.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
