MELBOURNE, Fla.- Aiste Vaitekunaite of the Florida Tech Women's Basketball team has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
This is the junior's first time receiving this award this season as well as the first of her career with the Panthers.
Florida Tech posted a 1-1 week with a loss to #7 West Texas A&M and a victory over Notre Dame College (Ohio) at the Tampa Holiday Classic.
On day one of the tournament in a matchup with a top 10 team in the country, Vaitekunaite played 26 minutes, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds, a block, and a steal. She was 3-9 on field goal attempts and 3-4 from beyond the arc.
In the win over Notre Dame College (Ohio) Vaitekunaite put on a show posting her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. She also added three blocks and two assists to cap off her performance on day two of the Tampa Holiday Classic.
The Women's Basketball team is back in action Thursday, December 29 in an SSC road contest at Nova Southeastern. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
