Panthers Unable to Hang with Sharks in Home Loss

FIRST HALF:
  • After Niall Harris scored the opening basket of the game to put Tech up 2-0, Runako Ziegler knocked down a three off an assist from Mate Papai to push the lead to 5-3 with 17:05 to go.
  • Sesan Russell and Sean Houpt combined to sink three consecutive shots from beyond the arc, two by Russell, to put the Panthers up 14-11 with 14:22 remaining.  
  • Consecutive layups by Harris and Ziegler increased Tech's lead to 18-13 with 11:58 left on the clock. 
  • Sharks responded by outscoring the Panthers 18-4 over the next five minutes to jump out to a 31-22 lead with 6:58 to go.
  • Panthers cut the margin to 36-28 on a layup by Ziegler with 3:51 remaining. 
  • NSU closed the half on a 14-0 run to take a 50-28 advantage into halftime.
 
SECOND HALF:
  • Sharks opened the half on a 47-19 run to extend their lead to 97-47 with 7:43 to go. 
  • NSU continued to cruise the rest of the way en route to their 20th win of the season. 
     
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Sesan Russell led Tech with 10 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds on 3-5 shooting, including 2-4 beyond the arc
  • Runako Ziegler added 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists on 4-7 shooting
  • Niall Harris recorded 9 points and 3 rebounds on 3-7 shooting
  • Donovan Murphy tallied 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists on 3-5 shooting. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech shot 43.8% (21-48) from the field, 26.3% (5-19) from three and 57.9% (11-19) at the free throw line.
  • NSU made 55.4% (41-74) of its shots in the game, including 36.8% (7-19) beyond the arc, and 81.3% (26-32) at the line. 
  • Sharks won the rebounding battle 43-24, including a 14-2 edge on the offensive glass.
  • Panthers turned the ball over a season-high 29 times in the game compared to 12 for the Sharks. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back in action on Feb. 12 as the Panthers travel to Boca Raton to face Lynn. Tip-off for the contest is 4 p.m. at the De Hoernle Center.
