Panthers Edge #7 Sharks to Take Game 2

Eldridge and Owens both homer in 9-8 affair

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME:
  • Hayden Kimball hit a RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the second, scoring both Alec Eldridge and Dylan Owens to give the Panthers the first runs of the game.
  • The Panthers kept the second inning rally going thanks to Sam Schner's RBI single through the right side, bringing in Hayden Kimball and Diego Garcia.
  • Jakob Newton gave the Panthers their last run of the second inning when he doubled to right center field, plating Paul Castillo, giving the Panthers a 5-0 lead going into the third inning.
  • The Sharks answered the Panthers' rally in the top of the third when Adan Fernandez hit a homerun, scoring Adam Frank and Tyler Epstein in the process.
  • Nik Sanders scored on a wild pitch.
  • Daniel Irisarri hit a RBI single to center field, plating Michael Avendano to tie the game 5-5.
  • Dylan Owens hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third, allowing the Panthers to take a 6-5 lead.
  • Schner hit a RBI infield single, plating Garcia, increasing the Panther lead 7-5.
  • Jakob Newton reached base on a walk, advancing Castillo to second, Dylan Dohanos to third, and scoring Schner to give the Panthers a 8-5 lead.
  • Eldridge hit a solo home run to left center field in the bottom of the fourth, scoring the Panthers' final run of the game.
  • The Sharks attempted to rally back in the top of the fifth when Irisarri hit a RBI single to Kimball, scoring Fernandez.
  • Gabriel Rivera reached first on a fielding error by Kimball, bringing in both Irisarri and Sanders cutting the lead 9-8.
  • The Sharks would go four scoreless innings, ending their second comeback of the game, giving the Panthers a 9-8 win.
  • Mitch Harding pitched two and two-third innings, allowing five hits, five runs, striking out four, and threw 56 pitches.
  • Sam Orozco pitched two innings, allowing one hit, three runs, and struck out one Shark, earning the win.
  • Jason Englert pitched two and one-third innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and struck out three.
  • Alex Carpenter pitched a perfect two innings to close the game for the Panthers, striking out two Sharks in the process, earning the save. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first series between Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern since March 13, 2021. The Panthers now lead the all-time series 29-25.
  • This is the Panthers' first series win over a ranked team since taking two of three from #1 Tampa on February 22-23, 2019.
  • Dylan Owens increased his hitting streak to 10 with his single to left field in the bottom of the second.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 P.M. for a Sunshine State Conference Series Finale against Nova Southeastern at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
