Late Rally Comes Up Short, Panthers Lose 17-8

Tiffin beats Tech as 9th inning rally came too late.

STATS OF GAME:
  • The Dragons got on the board first in the top of the third, thanks to Griffin Stevens' triple to right field, scoring Jake Shier, Marino Pugnetti, and Zach Campbell.
  • The Panthers respond with a run in the bottom of the third when Brett Parrish singled to center field, plating Sam Schner.
  • Hayden Kimball hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Paul Castillo.
  • Kimball then drove in two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, when he singled to left field, plating Luca Wentzel and Alec Eldridge.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Jakob Newton homered to right field, plating Sam Schner in the process.
  • The late rally continued with Wentzel's single to right field, scoring Parrish.
  • Jack Nagy hit an infield single, plating Kimball and Wentzel.
  • Dylan Dohanos singled through the right side, scoring both Nagy and Kimball.
  • Samuel Orozco pitched two innings, allowing four runs, five hits, and threw 38 pitches.
  • Zach Rodgers pitched one and one-third innings, allowing five runs, five hits, and struck out one Dragon.
  • Liam Progulske pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and struck out two.
  • Tyler Vermillion pitched one inning, allowing one run and three hits.
  • Preston Schumacher pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs, one hit, and struck out three.
  • Andrew Dunham closed the game for the Panthers, allowing two runs, two hits, and struck out two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first meeting between the teams since March 10, 2010. The all-time series is now tied, 1-1.
  • Jakob Newton extended his hitting streak to 12 thanks to his homer in the bottom of the ninth.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Wednesday night at 6:00 P.M. for a matchup against Bridgeport at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
