Panthers Sweep Griffins in Pitchers Duel

Samuel Orozco pitches five shutout innings in Panthers Game 3 victory

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME:
  • The first runs came from the Panthers in the bottom of the fifth when Jakob Newton hit an RBI double to left center field, scoring both Jack Nagy and Dylan Dohanos.
  • In the bottom of the eight the Panthers would double their lead when Dylan Owens singled to right center field, plating Brett Parrish, and Newton.
  • Luca Wentzel hit an RBI double to left center field, advancing Owens to third, and scoring Alec Eldridge.
  • Samuel Orozco earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing six hits, no runs, struck out three Griffins, and threw 74 pitches.
  • Danny Vassallo relieved Orozco in the top of the sixth, pitching four innings, allowing only two hits, no runs, and struck out six Griffins, earning the save.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first series between Florida Tech and Chestnut Hill since March 3rd, 2016. Florida Tech now leads the all-time series 5-0.
  • Jakob Newton extended his hitting streak to 16 with his RBI double to left center field in the bottom of the fifth. Newton leads the Sunshine State Conference in hits, totaling 32.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Monday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. for a matchup against Northwood at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
