Panthers Defeat Timberwolves 7-4 Extending Winning Streak to Five

Jakob Newton extends his hitting streak to 17 in Panthers victory

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME:
  • The Timberwolves struck first in the top of the first when Rhett Evans doubled to right field, scoring both Jacob Rybicki and David Jeffers.
  • The first runs for the Panthers wouldn't come until the bottom of the fifth when Hayden Kimball hit a RBI double down the left field line, scoring Paul Castillo.
  • Dylan Dohanos reached first on an error, plating Kimball.
  • Sam Schner stole home after Dohanos got caught in a pickle between first and second.
  • In the bottom of the sixth Alec Eldridge homered to left field, scoring Dylan Owens and Brett Parrish in the process, doubling the Panthers' lead.
  • The Timberwolves attempted to rally back in the top of the seventh when Myles Beale grounded out, scoring Joey Johnston.
  • Khale Showers singled to left center field in the top of the eighth, scoring Evans.
  • Dylan Owens scored on a wild pitch to give the Panthers their final run of the game.
  • Mitch Harding pitched six innings, allowing six hits, two runs, struck out eight Timberwolves, and threw 67 pitches, earning the win.
  • Andres Rodriguez pitch one and two-third innings, allowing two runs, two hits, and struck out one.
  • Alex Carpenter pitched a perfect one and one-third innings, striking out four Timberwolves, and earning the save.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first meeting between the Florida Tech Panthers and the Northwood Timberwolves. The Panthers now lead the all-time series 1-0.
  • Jakob Newton extended his hitting streak to 17 with his infield single in the bottom of the first.
  • Paul Castillo's fifth inning triple to right center field earns him the third most triples in a season, in program history.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. for a matchup against Winona State at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
