No. 14 Panthers Defeat Eagles to Clinch SSC Tournament Spot

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Embry-Riddle got on the board first just 57 seconds into the game, but Zach Rozgonyi tied the score at 1-1 with 13:05 left in the first. 
  • After the Eagles regained a 2-1 lead, Austin Engeler and Rozgonyi both scored off assists from Nate Deplancke, and the Panthers took a 3-2 advantage into the second quarter. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • ERAU scored a pair of goals to open the quarter to grab a 4-3 lead with 10:44 to go in the first half. 
  • Collin Stewart scored off an assist from Sam Balch to tie the game at 4-4 with 5:16 left. 
  • Gavin Wessel tallied a rebound goal with 4:13 to go to hand Tech a 5-4 advantage. 
  • Rozgonyi netted consecutive goals, his first on a man-up off an assist from Justin Williams and his second coming from a feed by Stewart, to push the Panthers' lead to 7-4 with 1:27 remaining in the quarter. 
  • Eagles snuck one in with 13 seconds to go in the frame and the Panthers went into halftime with a 7-5 lead. 

THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Tech scored four straight goals by four different players to open the third quarter to increase the margin to 11-5 with 7:16 to go. Bennett Duffy, Jakob Terpak, Williams, and Matt Gutmann scored goals during the run.
  • After ERAU trimmed the different to 11-6, Williams scored his second of the game to make the score 12-6 with 2:10 left in the quarter. 
  • Eagles scored with 52 seconds to go in the third to get the margin to 12-7 heading to the fourth quarter.  

FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Rozgonyi tallied his fifth goal of the game with 11:48 remaining in the fourth to push Tech's lead to 13-7. That was his 37th goal of the season, which ties the single season goals record. 
  • Embry-Riddle fought its way back into the game with five unanswered goals to cut the Panthers' lead to 13-12 with 4:58 left. 
  • Tech responded with unassisted goals by Stewart and Terpak over a 46 second span to make it a three-goal lead, 15-12, with 2:04 to go. 
  • Panthers ran out the rest of the clock en route to their fourth SSC win of the season and clinched a spot in this year's SSC Tournament. 

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech finished with an edge in shots (47-43), shots on goal (26-21) and caused turnovers (12-9).
  • Both teams collected 44 ground balls. 
  • Eagles won 19-30 faceoffs.
  • Panthers were 2-3 on man-up tries while limiting ERAU to 0-3.
  • ERAU turned the ball of 21 times compared to 17 for the Panthers. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • With the win, Florida Tech clinches a spot in the 2022 SSC Tournament. 
  • Zach Rozgonyi tied the program's single season goals record held by Jason Terry with his 37th goal of the season at the 11:48 mark of the fourth quarter.  
  • Florida Tech improves to 3-0 all-time versus Embry-Riddle.

UP NEXT: Panthers are back in action on Saturday, April 16, hosting No. 12 Florida Southern for Senior Day at Panther Field. The game is set to begin at 11 a.m.
