No. 14 Panthers Knock Off No. 12 Moccasins in Overtime on Senior Day

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Panthers opened the game on a 4-0 run and outshot the Mocs 23-9 in the first quarter.
  • Zach Rozgonyi tallied Tech's first goal of the day. It was the sophomore's 38th goal of the season, which set a new program record for goals in a single season. 
  • Collin Stewart scored back-to-back tallies, the first off an assist from Jakob Terpak to put Tech up 2-0, and the second coming on a man-up from Griffin Bowie to make it a 3-0 lead. 
  • Sam Sidari then scored unassisted to put the Panthers up 4-0 with 5:30 to go in the first. 
  • The Mocs tallied their first goal with 4:55 left to make it a 4-1 margin. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • FSC cut the Panthers' lead to 4-2 with 9:08 remaining in the second quarter. 
  • Bennett Duffy netted his lone tally of the game off an assist from Patrick Stewart to push Tech's advantage back to two with 7:48 left. 
  • Later in the second, Stewart got into the mix with a quick stick goal off an assist from Griffin Martin to put the Panthers up 6-2 with 4:08 to go. 
  • The Mocs trimmed the lead to 6-4 with 1:26 left in the half but Nate Deplancke answered less than a minute later to hand the Panthers a 7-4 lead at halftime. 

THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Rozgonyi and John Hulsman connected on a full-field pass that beat the Mocs' 10-man ride and set up Rozgonyi for his second goal of the day, which made the score 8-4 at the 11:50 mark of the third quarter. 
  • FSC answered with a goal 12 seconds later and then proceeded to outscore Florida Tech 5-2 the rest of the third quarter to even the score at 10-10 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Chandler Hake scored both of the Panthers' goals during the Mocs' run with the second tally coming off an assist from Justin Williams

FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Deplancke and Collin Stewart scored consecutive goals, both off assists from Rozgonyi, to open the fourth quarter and give Tech a 12-10 lead.
  • FSC responded with its own two-goal run to tie the game at 12-12. 
  • With 5:03 left in regulation, Austin Engeler scored on a fastbreak to put the Panthers back in front, but the Mocs answered less than a minute later to tie the game at 13-13. 
 
FIRST OVERTIME:
  • Rozgonyi came through in the clutch just 47 seconds into the overtime period as he scored the game-winner, and completed his hat-trick, off an assist from Collin Stewart to send the Panthers to victory on Senior Day and their fifth SSC win of the season. 

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Zach Rozgonyi recorded 3 goals, 2 assists, a career-high 10 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.
  • Collin Stewart finished with 3 goals, 1 assist and 3 ground balls.
  • Nate Deplancke had 2 goals and 3 ground balls. 
  • Chandler Hake scored 2 goals.
  • Patrick Stewart added 1 goal and 1 assist. 
  • Jack Maranto won 9-of-31 faceoffs and picked up 8 ground balls. 
  • Sam Balch collected 5 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. 
  • Josh Vetter picked up 5 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. 
  • Matthew Hill finished with 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. 
  • John Hulsman picked up his 10th win of the season and tied a season-high with 18 saves in goal. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech finished with an edge in shots (60-46), shots on goal (34-31), ground balls (51-47) and caused turnovers (13-4). 
  • Mocs controlled the faceoff X, winning 22-9.
  • FSC turned the ball of 21 times compared to 15 for the Panthers. 
  • Florida Tech went 26-28 on clear attempts while the Mocs were 20-21.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • It was a record-setting day for Zach Rozgonyi as he now holds the program's single-season records for points (55), goals (40), and hat tricks (8). 
  • Sam Balch's 3 caused turnovers moves him into 2nd on the program's single-season list for caused turnovers (43). It also ranks 2nd in SSC history for caused turnovers in a season behind the 51 recorded by Panther alum Jordan Carlock during the 2015 season. 

UP NEXT: Panthers close out the regular season on the road against No. 10 Rollins next Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium in Winter Park.
