Tech Drops Series After 9-5 Defeat in Daytona Beach

Panthers loses series against Eagles in 9-5 affair

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME:
  • Brett Parrish grounded out to third base in the top of the first, which allowed Dylan Dohanos to score the first run of the game.
  • Dylan Owens hit a RBI double to right center field, plating Jakob Newton.
  • Alec Eldridge followed in Owen's footsteps and hit the Panthers' second double of the inning to left center field, scoring Owens from second, extending the Panther lead 3-0.
  • The Eagles answered in the bottom of the second when Daniel Trillo doubled down the left field line, scoring Garrett Bogart and Josh Reynolds, cutting the Panther lead 3-2.
  • Kevin Vittoria hit a sacrifice bunt to Alec Eldridge, which brought in Trillo and Hoffman to score, giving the Eagles a 4-3 lead.
  • The Eagles would then score five runs in the bottom of the third, extending their lead 9-3.
  • Sam Schner hit a RBI single to left center field in the top of the fourth, scoring Jack Nagy, cutting the Eagle lead 9-4.
  • The final run of the game came from the Panthers in the top of the seventh inning when Alec Eldridge hit a RBI single to center field, advancing Owens to second, and plating Newton.
  • Samuel Orozco pitched one and one-third inning, allowing two hits, four runs, and threw 28 pitches.
  • Noah Steckley pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and four runs.
  • Jason Englert pitched one-third of an inning, allowing two hits and one run.
  • Justin Lorenz pitched two-thirds of an inning, facing three batters on 20 pitches.
  • Zach Rodgers pitched three innings, allowing three hits, no runs, and struck out one Eagle.
  • Alex Carpenter closed the game for the Panthers where he pitched two innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and struck out two Eagles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first series between Florida Tech and Embry Riddle since March 24, 2019. The Panthers now tie the all-time series 20-20. 
  • Dylan Dohanos extended his hitting streak to five after his single to left field in the top of the first.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action Friday night at 5:00 PM for a Sunshine State Conference series opener against Rollins College at Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field in Winter Park, FL.
