Tech Falls to Lions in Series Opener

Panthers give up 12 unanswered runs in 12-3 loss

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME:
  • Jakob Newton singled through the left side in the bottom of the third, allowing Paul Castillo to advance to third, giving Dylan Dohanos the opportunity to come across the plate to score the Panthers first run of the game.
  • Brett Parrish hit a single to center field, scoring both Newton and Castillo, extending the Panthers lead 3-0.
  • Sam Crail singled through the right side in the top of the fifth, scoring both Trovinger and Anderson, cutting the Panther lead 3-2.
  • Yazael Nunez singled to left field in the top of the sixth, allowing Wyman and Roa to score, giving the Lions a 4-3 lead.
  • Buck Anderson stole second, and on the throw down to second, Nunez stole home to extend the Lions lead 5-3.
  • The Lions would then score seven more unanswered runs between the seventh and eighth inning.
  • Joey Hecht pitched four innings, allowing five hits, two runs, struck out three, while throwing 70 pitches.
  • Danny Vassallo pitched one and one-third inning, allowing four hits, three runs, and struck out two.
  • Jason Englert pitched one inning, allowing two hits, five runs, and struck out one.
  • Andrew Dunham pitched one and one-third inning, allowing one hit, two runs, and struck out two.
  • Zach Rodgers closed the game for the Panthers, allowing two hits, no runs, and struck out two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first meeting between Florida Tech and Saint Leo since April 17, 2021. The Lions now lead the all-time series 90-61-1. 
  • Dylan Dohanos extended his hitting streak to 14 with his double to left center field in the bottom of the third.

UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM for a Sunshine State Conference series doubleheader against Saint Leo at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field in Melbourne, FL.
