Boca Raton, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's swimming team competed for the first time in 2023 on Saturday with a Sunshine State Conference meet against Lynn at the McCusker Pool Complex. Ultimately, it was the Fighting Knights who came away with a 168-94 victory.
Kiera Ceely earned her fourth individual win of the season by taking the 200 Fly with a time of 2:16.98 that was two and a half seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Ceely also finished second in the 500 Free thanks to a time of 5:27.30.
Alex Knodel earned her second solo victory of the season as well, taking home the 200 IM thanks to a 2:19.19 finish that was 0.71s ahead of second place.
Leah Fonnotto grabbed second in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:09.06. Kate Helminiak took third in the event with a 11:21.33 time. Emma Knick finished second in the 200 Free thanks to a time of 2:01.21 that was only 0.02s ahead of third. Kat Reburn took home second in the 100 Back (1:05.13) and 200 Back (2:20.19). Debora Xavier took second in the 50 Free (25.70) and 100 Fly (1:02.38).
Shaelyn Rutta earned third in the 100 Breast (1:12.86) and 100 Free (56.83). Christina Ramirez placed third in the 100 Back with a time of 1:05.40. Lauren Bowers notched a third-place finish in the 200 Back with a time of 2:26.61. Sophia Sichtnik finished third in the 200 Breast thanks to a time of 2:37.57.
In relay action, the team of Rutta, Xavier, Knick and Helminiak took second in the 400 Free with a time of 3:47.81 while the group of Harper Powell, Rutta, Xavier and Reburn finished in the 200 Medley thanks to a time of 1:55.91.
The Panthers will return to the pool next Saturday January 21st at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center in Saint Leo for a Sunshine State Conference meet against Saint Leo beginning at 12 noon.
