Tech Taken Down by Tars in Tuesday Night Match

Winter Park. – The Florida Tech Panthers traveled to Rollins on Tuesday night for an SSC Matchup which would see the Tars Defeat Tech in three straight sets.

FINAL: Florida Tech 0, Rollins 3
Records: Florida Tech (5-12, 1-8 SSC), Rollins (9-8, 4-5 SSC)
Locations: Warden Arena | Winter Park, Fla.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • To start out the match, Rollins gained an early 9-3 lead thanks to Lana Gerard who recorded two kills and two service aces for the Tars.
  • Following a kill from Chiara Patelli and service ace by Kenzie Delacher, the Panthers still trailed 13-8.
  • Errors by the Tars and a kill from Antia Vallecas Rodriguez helped Tech back to trail by just one, 13-12.
  • Rollins continued to roll, scoring 11 of the next 13 points grabbing a large 24-14 lead. 
  • Emma Begley of the Tars secured the set for the Tars 25-15.
     
Second Set:
  • Tech began the second with a 3-0 run highlighted by two kills from Patelli.
  • The Tars came back to within one following a Gerard kill before Patelli recorded three straight points for the Panthers from a kill and two service aces to make it a 7-3 set.
  • The Tars edged their way back slowly to be down by one once against with help from Emily Diaz's two kills.
  • As the Tars trailed 13-9, they rallied off another three points in a row still trailing 13-12. 
  • The two Tars kills came from Jadyn Troutman and Gerard before Begley and Gerard recorded a block assist for their third straight point.
  • Vallecas Rodriguez had a kill before two attack errors by Rollins pushed Tech ahead 16-12.
  • Five of the next six points would be rewarded to the Tars, tying the set 17-17. Begley and Gerard both recorded kills in the rally.
  • As the Panthers led 22-20, the Tars would gain their first lead of the set 23-22 off kills by Gerard, Troutman and block assist by Begley and Troutman.
  • Tech managed to record the next two [points off kills from Vallecas Rodriguez and Maria Jesus Munoz before Gerard and Begley helped defeat the Panthers in a second set 26-24, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Third Set:  
  • Leading the match, Rollins picked up where they loft off, gaining an early 6-3 lead over Tech.
  • A service ace from Kari Voelstad Bogen would help to bring Tech deficit to one, 7-6.
  • Rollins managed to score 16 of the next 19 points to pull ahead to a huge 23-9 lead.
  • As the Panthers attempts to make a comeback scoring three of the final five points the Tars lead was too much, as they would win the set 25-12 and win the match 3-0
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers move to a record of 28-34 and 9-21 in Winter Park against the Tars dating back to 1993.
  • Rollins has won seven of the past 11 matches.
  • The Panthers last win against the Tars comeback on September 15, 2017.
  • Kenzie Delacher hit three milestones recording her 1,300 career set assist, just the 11th player in 30 years in Florida Tech to do so, as well as her 500th career dig and 50th career service ace.
