Panthers Come From Behind in Second Half to Defeat Tampa

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's soccer team used three unanswered second-half goals capped off with the game-winner from Ettore Casadei in the 88th minute to defeat the Tampa Spartans, 3-2, on Saturday night.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Tampa threatened in just the first minute with a shot on target, but Iker Bastida was able to come up with the early save to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the eighth minute, Daffa Taylor sent a cross into the Panthers' box and Pablo Marques used a header into the top corner to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
  • After some back and forth with possession, Tech earned a free kick from just outside the box. Joeran Osland took a shot towards the goal, but it bent just wide right of the far post.
  • Both teams continued to jostle for possession for the next several minutes. In the final minute of the half, Osland and Joakim Jahnsen were able to put back-to-back shots on target, but the Spartans keeper came up with two big saves and the teams went into halftime with a score of 1-0.
  • Less than two minutes into the second half, Marques smashed a shot past a diving Bastida to give Tampa a 2-0 advantage.
  • In the 53rd minute, Joakim Jahnsen used a second chance ball in the box to rip a shot past Tampa's keeper to cut in the lead and make it 2-1.
  • 12 minutes later, Jahnsen notched the equalizer after a perfect pass from Osvaldo Santana set him up for an open look at the goal. His shot nailed the upper right corner to tie the game at 2-2 with just under 27 minutes left to play.
  • In the 80th minute, Jahnsen looked to complete the comeback with a hat trick and took a shot off a free kick, but his attempt rang off the crossbar and the game stayed tied at 2-2.
  • With less than three minutes left to play, Osland sent a chip into the box for Ettore Casadei, who headed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner and the match ended with a score of 3-2.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 18-35-8 all-time against Tampa.
  • This was the first time the Panthers have won consecutive games against the Spartans since October 14.
  • Tech is now 9-13-4 all-time at home against Tampa.
  • Joakim Jahnsen scored his first two goals with the Panthers this season.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech's next match will be on Saturday, Oct. 21 on the road against PBA. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
