TAMPA, FLA. – The Florida Tech Panthers competed in their final regular season road game of 2023 on Saturday evening as they took on the 2023 Regular Season Sunshine State Conference Champions, the University of Tampa Spartans. The Panthers were back by
Chiara Patelli who recorded a .338 hitting percentage in the 3-1 defeat by Tampa.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
First Set:
- Tech started the match ahead 2-0 as Chiara Patelli and María Jesús Muñoz tallied two kills for the Panthers
- Tampa jumped ahead to a 9-4 lead over Tech as Mackenzie Dufresne recorded three kills for the Spartans early on.
- Another kill for Dufresne helped Tampa pull ahead 12-5.
- Two kills from Antia Vallecas Rodriguez and a kill from Cordelia Kearns helped Tech stay in it after back-and-forth points, still trailing 15-9.
- Another kill from Kearns helped the Crimson and Gray's deficit go to just five as the Spartans stayed ahead 19-14.
- With Tech down 21-15, Tampa finished off the set with four straight points to go ahead in the match 1-0.
Second Set:
- Set two saw Tampa lead 3-0 before the Panthers cut their deficit to just one down 6-5 as Patelli recorded two kills in the comeback effort.
- A three-point run later by Tampa allowed the Spartans to extend their lead to 11-6.
- The Panthers answered back to bring their deficit to just two with two more kills by Patelli made it a 12-10 set.
- Tampa would go on to score seven of the next nine points, extending their lead to 19-12.
- Kills by Devyn Glassgold, Vallecas Rodriguez, and Kearns would add to Tech's score but not be enough in the second set as Tampa earned the set point to win 25-16 and lead the match 2-0.
Third Set:
- The third set saw Patelli and Ashley Rants score the opening points before Tess Schrenger and Nathaly Perez recorded kills in two of the Spartan's next four points to have Tampa lead 4-2.
- The Panthers would tie it at 5-5 after a kill by Rants and tie it.
- Glassgold and Kearns helped the Panthers tie it again at again 6-6 and 7-7.
- Tech managed to take a 9-7 lead following two service aces in a row by Kari Voelstad Bogen.
- With the Crimson and Gray ahead 12-10, the Panthers recorded four unanswered points to extend their lead to 16-10 thanks to kills from Patelli, Muñoz, and Rants.
- Another three unanswered points by Tech with help from kills by Kearns and Glassgold allowed the Panthers to stay ahead 20-15.
- Tampa's attempt to sweep the Panthers came up unsuccessful as Tech won the third set 25-20 and stayed in the match while still trailing 2-1.
Fourth Set:
- Set four started with the Panthers ahead 1-0, before Tampa pulled ahead 8-3.
- Big runs by the Spartans saw them increase their lead to 13-5 and later 18-7 highlighted by two kills from Jenna Vaske.
- Tech attempted to stay in the match as a kill from Patelli and two service aces from Courtney Capar made it a 19-11 set.
- The 2023 SSC Regular Season Champions, Tampa, managed to control the fourth set winning 25-14 and winning the match 3-1.
NOTABLE PANTHERS
- Chiara Patelli recorded nine kills and just two errors in 19 attempts for a .398 hitting percentage with one set assist and one block assist for 9.5 points in the match.
- Cordelia Kearns tallied eight kills for the Panthers.
- Kenzie Delacher tallied 20 set assists for Tech.
- Kari Voelstad Bogen led the Panthers with 14 digs against Tampa.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Florida Tech moves to 0-93 all-time against Tampa.
- Chiara Patelli maintains her high hitting percentage this season with a .340% to maintain the fourth highest percentage in the SSC.
- Kenzie Delacher's .38 service aces per set and 35 total service aces this season rank 6th in the SSC.
- With 328 digs this year, Courtney Capar ranks eighth in the conference.
- Freshman Cordelia Kearns 298 kills are the ninth most by a single player in the conference this season.
