Florida Tech Suffers Defeat Against Palm Beach Atlantic

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Florida Tech Panthers fought hard in four sets against the visiting Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in SSC action on Friday night. Despite winning the second set against the Sailfish the Panthers dropped the first, third and fourth sets as PBA walked away from Melbourne with the win

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • After the Sailfish recorded the first point of the match, Tech managed to pull ahead 7-4 highlighted by two kills from Ashley Rants.
  • Chipping away at the Panther's lead, PBA managed to come back and tie the set at 11-11.12-12, 13-13, and again 14-14 before taking a 16-14 lead.
  • In a back-and-forth battle tech tallied two points to tie it once again at 16-16 with Cordelia Kearns tallying a kill to help out the Panthers.
  • A kill by PBA's Harper Stokes put them ahead again 18-17 before a service ace by Payton Ahrenstorff helped PBA lead 19-17.
  • Kills from Chiara Patelli and Rants tied the set at 20-20 before the Sailfish jumped out to a 22-20 lead.
  •  María Jesús Muñoz  helped to make it even at 22-22 with a kill.
  • After a point from PBA, Lilian Muszynski helped the Panthers make it a 23-23 match.
  • With the set on the line and PBA ahead 24-23, Patelli kept the Panthers in the fight 24-24 until two points by PBA gave the Sailfish a 26-24 victory in the first set to lead 1-0.
 
Second Set:
  • PBA carried on jumping out to a 7-3 lead in the second.
  • A four-point run by the Panthers helped Tech reduce its deficit to one, trailing 9-8 thanks to two kills from Kearns.
  • Tied at 12, a kill from Anna Beth Stokes allowed PBA to take a 14-12 lead.
  • As the Crimson and Gray battled back to make it 15-15, five straight points from the Sailfish put PBA ahead 20-15.
  • Four unanswered points by Tech made it 20-19 as Antia Vallecas Rodriguez, Patelli and Kearns each recorded kills in the run.
  • Two more kills from Patelli helped the Panthers take the lead 22-21.
  • Tech closed out the second set on three unanswered kills and Courtney Capar, Patelli and Rants each recorded one to tie the match 1-1 and give Tech the 25-22 win in the second set.
 
Third Set:  
  • A kill from Stokes highlighted PBA's early offense in the third helping PBA take a 5-3 lead in the third set.
  • Four straight points from Tech put the Panthers ahead 8-6 after Rants and Muñoz recorded kills.
  • Tech extended their lead to three points to go ahead 11-8.
  • PBA jumped back ahead to take a 15-14 lead in the third.
  • The Panthers brought their deficit back to within one point trailing 20-19 following a kill from Vallecas Rodriguez.
  • After PBA led the set 23-19, Tech tallied four points to come back 23-23.
  • Techs run was highlighted by two kills from Patelli and one from Vallecas Rodriguez.
  • Tied at 24-24 after another kill from Patelli, PBA managed to win the third set 26-24 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
Fourth Set:  
  • Tech would lead the fourth set 4-3 following two kills from Rants before three offensive points from PBA put the sailfish ahead 6-4.
  • PBA would go ahead to lead by five with a score of 12-7.
  • Another 5-2 point run from the Sailfish extended PBA's led to 17-9.
  • A kill from Abbie Zylstra of PBA put them ahead 20-10.
  • A three-point run from the Crimson and Gray shortened PBA's lead to 21-14.
  • Scoring four of the final five points
Closed out the third set 25-15 and gave the Sailfish a 3-1 win.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS
  • Chiara Patelli was dominant for the Panther's offense as she tallied an impressive .615 hitting percentage while leading Tech with 18 kills and just two errors In 26 attempts.
  •  With two solo blocks and one block assist, she finished the match with 20.5 points, the most amongst any player from each team.
  • Cordelia Kearns finished the match with 12 kills and two block assists for 13 points.
  • Kenzie Delacher recorded a season-high 32 assists.
  • Kari Voelstad Bogen tallied 20 digs in the match for Tech.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 17-34 all-time against PBA.
  • Chiara Patelli currently has a .354-hitting percentage for the season. She is one pace to break the 20-year-old Florida Tech record for hitting percentage which was set by Kelly Currin who recorded a .326 hitting percentage for the Panthers in 2003.
  • With 310 kills this season, Cordelia Kearns becomes the fourth freshman in program history to tally 300 kills. She's the first since Caitlyn Ballweber in 2009.
  • With 819 Digs in her career, Kari Voelstad Bogen is the 22nd Player in Panther history to hit that mark since Sheila Villagrasa in 2019.
  • Recording 32 assists tonight, Kenzie Delacher reached 1500 career assists and is the 10th player in program history to reach that mark.

The Panthers will hold their Senior night tomorrow, Saturday, November 18th before their match against Nova Southeastern which is set to start at 4:00 P.M.
