MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech senior
Lina Stranger-Johannessen was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.
This is Stranger-Johannessen's first career SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The Panthers opened the 2023-24 season with three games at the CCA Tip-off at the Trailhead Tournament in Billings, Montana.
The Oslo, Norway native led the Panthers from the defensive standpoint, recording ten defensive rebounds, seven steals, and one block over three games. Offensively,
she scored 20 points, dished eight assists, and brought down three offensive rebounds.
To open up action against No. 2 Minnesota State, Stranger-Johannessen contributed double-digit scoring with a team-high 12 points while also throwing out two steals and three rebounds.
On day two, the Panthers faced Minot State, where the guard posted three points, four assists, two steals, one block, and five defensive rebounds for six total rebounds.
In the final game against No. 15 Montana State Billings, the senior led all players with three steals, four assists, and four defensive rebounds while also adding five points to close out the action in Montana.
Stranger-Johannessen and the rest of the Panthers will be back in action Friday, Nov. 10, when they travel to the Saint Leo Conference Challenge to take on Clark Atlanta at 3 p.m.
