Baseball's Win Streak Ended By Rollins

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Panthers began their third SSC series with a visit from Rollins. The Tars jumped on Tech early and didn't look back to take home a 9-3 victory.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME: 

  • Rollins was the first to score with a 2-run home run from Parker Smith in the second inning. 
  • The Tars added two more runs in the second inning on a RBI single and a RBI sacrifice fly.  
  • Sam Schner put the Panthers on a board with a solo home run to right-center field in the second inning.  
  • Cameron Meehan gave Rollins a 5-1 lead the fifth inning with a solo home run to right-center field. 
  • Tech had two runners on in the fourth and sixth innings, but could not drive home anyone in both scenarios.  
  • A RBI single from Jeslyn Whitehead and a 2-RBI single by Ryan Coleman extended the Rollins lead to 8-1 in the eighth inning. 
  • Brett Kelly smashed a 2-run home run to left field that cut into the Tars lead in the eighth inning.  
  • Joey Rubin gave Rollins an insurance run in the ninth inning with a RBI single to left field.  
  • RHP Sean Means took the loss for Tech. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits in five innings on the bump. The senior struck out five and walked two.  
  • RHP Tyler Vermillion worked two innings in relief and gave up three earned runs on two hits. He struck out three and walked two.  
  • RHP Zach Rodgers threw the final two innings and gave up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts.  
  • RHP Edward Berry was the winning pitcher for Rollins. He worked seven innings while giving up one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.  
  • Tech had eight hits with Alec Eldridge leading the team with two hits.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Panthers drop to 72-84-1 all-time against Rollins.  
  • Schner and Kelly each hit their first career home run in the loss. 
  • Tech's season-high seven-game winning streak is no more.  

UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action tomorrow, March 18th for game two of the series with Rollins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
