Panthers Even Series With Tars

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Rain and lightning pushed back the start of Florida Tech's Saturday night SSC game with Rollins. The Panthers didn't let the delay affect them, as they battled to a 5-2 win over the Tars to even the three-game series.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: 
Final: Florida Tech 5, (RV) Rollins 2 
Records: Florida Tech (16-9, 5-3 SSC) | Rollins (16-7, 6-2 SSC)  
Location: Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field | Melbourne, Fla.  

STATS OF GAME: 

  • Tech scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning with two outs on an infield error from the Rollins shortstop.  
  • The next batter was Austin Sewell who gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with a 2-RBI single to left field. 
  • Rollins scored two runs in the seventh inning with a RBI single from Ryan Coleman and a bases-loaded walk.  
  • The Tars threatened to tie the game with a runner on third and one out in the eighth inning. However, a groundout to third base and a diving catch by Sam Schner in center field kept the Panthers in front.  
  • An error from the right fielder for Rollins scored Sewell in the eighth inning.  
  • Later in the eighth inning, Tech got its final insurance run with a RBI double down the left-field line from Schner that scored Tate Hansen.  
  • RHP Mitch Harding took home the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings while giving up two earned runs on six hits. The junior struck out seven, walked one, and hit two batters.  
  • RHP Ridge Skarbek earned his fourth save of the season. He worked two and one-third scoreless innings and gave up three hits with one walk.  
  • RHP Nick Berger was the losing pitcher for the Tars. He gave up three runs, all of which were unearned, on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. 
  • The Panthers had seven hits with Sewell leading the way with two hits and two RBIs.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Panthers move to 73-84-1 all-time against Rollins.  
  • Tech is 22-12 at home against the Tars in the last 20 seasons. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action tomorrow, March 19th for the final game of the series with Rollins. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
