Tech Takes Friday Night Series Opener With Embry-Riddle

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech welcomed Embry-Riddle on Friday night to begin a three-game set. The Panthers scored seven runs in the first three innings and took home their sixth SSC win.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME: 

  • Josh Ford crushed a solo home run to left field in the second inning to get the Panthers on the board.  
  • The Panthers added another run in the second inning on a RBI groundout from Cole Patrick
  • The Eagles scored their first run in the third inning on a RBI single to center field from Dylan Brazil. 
  • Tech blew open the game in the third inning with five runs. Jason Blackstone, Alec Eldridge, Ford, Brett Kelly, and Austin Sewell each had a RBI in the frame.  
  • Tech's infield rolled a double play in the first and fourth innings. 
  • Taking advantage of a couple of infield errors, the Eagles scratched away for three runs in the eighth inning.  
  • A RBI double to left-center field by Tate Hansen that scored Kelly in the eighth inning gave Tech an 8-4 advantage.  
  • Embry-Riddle scored a run in the ninth on a RBI single to left field by Kevin Vittoria.  
  • The Eagles had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth down three runs, but RHP Ethan Stephens got a deep fly out to right field to end the game.  
  • RHP Mitch Harding picked up his second win of the year. The junior went seven innings while giving up one earned run on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.  
  • RHP Zach Rodgers threw one-third of an innings and gave up three runs, only one of which was earned.  
  • LHP Aiden Pryzgoda faced two batters in the eighth inning and sat both down with one strikeout.  
  • Stephens picked up his fourth save of the season. He gave up one earned run on three hits in the ninth inning with two strikeouts.  
  • RHP Tyler Stufano took the loss for the Eagles, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in four and one-third innings of work.  
  • The Panthers had 13 hits with Kelly leading the way with four hits.  
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 
  • The Panthers improve to 21-20 all-time against Embry-Riddle.  
  • Ford's second inning home run was the first of his career.  
  • Four hits is a career-high for Kelly.  
  • Seven innings on the bump mark the longest start of Harding's career.  

UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action tomorrow, March 25th for game two of the weekend against Embry-Riddle. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
