Miami Shores, Fla. - With just under a month remaining in the regular season, Florida Tech and Barry began a three-game series on Friday night that could loom large for both teams' prospects of making the NCAA Tournament. The Buccaneers used 11 runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to power their way to a 12-9 victory.

STATS OF GAME:
- The Buccaneers took the immediate initiative in the bottom of the fifth as Evan Wickeri led off with a single and then advanced to third when Mitch Harding's pickoff attempt went wide. He would come in to score on a Christian Maceda groundout.
- Tech would draw level in the top of the third, beginning with Gavin McGowan's leadoff double to left center against Barry starting pitcher Mike Reagan. McGowan would move to third on a Tate Hansen fly out to center and when Sam Schner did the same, McGowan scampered home to make it 1-1.
- Barry would reply in the bottom half of the inning, which Wickeri led off with an infield single. Following a Maceda groundout and a walk to Braden Forchic, Joe Stella cracked a three-run homer to left to put the Bucs back in front.
- The Panthers would fire right back in the top of the fourth when, following Josh Ford's two-out walk, Cole Patrick would club a two-run homer to left to bring Florida Tech to within a run.
- BU would begin to pull away in the bottom half of the inning, which Savi Delgado led off with a triple and would come in to score on Jason Blackstone's throwing error.
- Wickeri would follow with a single, Forchic singled with one out and Stella's walk loaded the bases. Kevin Noriega's single through the middle plated two.
- Steven Nitch's two-out single drove in Stella but Patrick's throw from right field to the plate was in time to retire Brandon Sanchez and end the inning.
- Blackstone would get a run back for the Panthers in the top of the fifth when his two-out infield single stayed just fair to drive in Hansen.
- Barry put the game away in the bottom half of the inning against reliever Carter Cooke. Jake Ogden led off the frame with a walk and, following a Delgado groundout, scored on a Wickeri double down the left field line.
- Wickeri advanced on a Maceda groundout and then scored on a wild pitch by Cooke.
- Immediately after, Forchic launched a solo homer along the right field line to increase the Bucs' lead to 11-4.
- Stella followed with a single to right and after a walk to Noriega, Sanchez's double into the right center field gap increased the margin to eight.
- The Panthers would show signs of in the top of the seventh, beginning with Gabe Garett's single to left off of reliever Luis Rivera. Blackstone and Brett Kelly were each hit by pitches to load the bases. Ford would drive in two with a single to center to give Tech some momentum.
- After Austin Sewell struck out, a wild pitch and a walk to Alec Eldridge would load the bases again.
- With McGowan at the plate, another wild pitch from new Bucs reliever Federico Zapata would allow Kelly to score. McGowan would strike out but Hansen's two-out, two-run single to left would bring the Panthers within three.
- The Crimson and Gray would threaten again in the top of the eighth after two infield singles brought the tying run to the plate but Ford would ground into a 1-4-3 double play that short-circuited the rally.
- RHP Mitch Harding took the loss for the Panthers. He gave up eight runs on eleven hits while striking out three and walking three.
- RHP Aiden Beechy's terrific effort in relief allowed Tech to make their late charge. He tossed two scoreless innings, while allowing only three hits before giving way to Tyler Vermillion in the eighth.
- Vermillion came up big as well, stranding the two runners he inherited in scoring position.
- McGowan had a three-hit night to lead Florida Tech's 12-hit effort, while Blackstone and Patrick each had multi-hit games.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Panthers are now 71-65 all-time against the Buccaneers.
- Patrick's home run was his fourth in the past seven games. His six long balls this season are the most by a Panther freshman since Ryan McChesney hit seven in 2009.
- Blackstone's fifth inning single extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games, which ties Gabe Garrett (February 25th through March 15th) for the longest such streak on the team this season.
- McGowan is hitting .451 (14-for-31) since March 10th.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action tomorrow, April 15, for a doubleheader against the Buccaneers. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
