Panthers Late Inning Rally Falls Short of Comeback

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech fell behind early but found room to rally in the final inning. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the rally fell short, handing Tech the loss to Eckerd.

STATS OF THE GAME:
 
  • The Tritons took a four-run lead in the top of the fourth on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a wild pitch, and a RBI single.
  • In the bottom of the 6th the Panthers would cut the Triton's lead in half.
  • Brett Kelly got Tech started on a single to left field, followed by a steal of second base. Alec Eldridge singled down the leftfield line to advance Kelly. Josh Ford then singled to score Kelly.
  • Joseph Phan's single through the left side sent Eldridge home for Tech's second run of the day.
  • Eckerd extended their lead in the 7th with three runs coming on two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
  • Tech's lone run in the 7th came on a RBI single by Kelly.
  • Two more runs for Eckerd made it 9-3. Runs were scored on a RBI walk and a RBI single to left field.
  • After a two-out double by Brett Parrish, a Tritons fielding error allowed him to score, making it 9-4.
  • Tech's rally in the bottom of the 9th started with a single to left field by Jason Blackstone.
  • Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Tech. Phan walked for the RBI putting Tech down by four.
  • Parrish's second two-out double of the game scored two and put Phan on third.
  • Andres Suarez struck out swinging to end the game. Mitch Harding took the loss pitching four innings and allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three.
  • Kelly, Phan, and Parrish each recorded a multi-hit effort.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • Panthers move to 70-54 all-time against Eckerd.
  • Blackstone extended his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action Friday, April 28, to open the series against Palm Beach Atlantic. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
