Panthers Take Care of Business with 17-11 Win over PBA

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech took an early lead against PBA and never let up, securing their second SSC win.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER: 
  • Panthers took a quick 1-0 just nine second into the opening frame as Cooper Leonard won the faceoff and took it straight in to give Tech a 1-0 lead.
  • PBA scored on a man-up opportunity to get on the board with 10:54 to go.
  • 30-seconds later, Collin Stewart recorded his first of the day, assisted by Jakob Terpak.
  • Stewart capitalized on a man-up opportunity to push Tech ahead 3-1, assisted by Zach Rozgonyi.
  • Sailfish scored to end the period down by one.
SECOND QUARTER: 
  • PBA started the scoring off in the second quarter just a minute and a half in.
  • Rozgonyi scored on a long feed from Sam Balch with 12:28 to go.
  • Sailfish tallied one more before Tech went on a 5-0 run to go into the break up 9-4.
  • Terpak and Justin Carte recorded back-to-back unassisted goals.
  • A through the legs shot for Stewart off a feed from Nate Deplancke extended Tech's lead with 5:32 to go.
  • Austin Engeler and Nicky Vreeland each scored on unassisted efforts.
THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Vreeland got Tech started in the third quarter scoring his second of the day.
  • PBA added one with 7:25 left.
  • The Panthers were quick to answer back as Cooper Leonard won the faceoff and sent the ball to a wide-open Brian Barlotta for his first-career goal.
  • Carte and Cam McKee tallied unassisted goals to push Tech's lead, 13-5 with 4:14 remaining.
  • With 39 seconds to go, PBA scored to cut the deficit 13-6.
  • Terpak responded with an unassisted goal in the final 8 seconds to re-gain the eight-goal lead.
FOURTH QUARTER: 
  • PBA outscored the Panthers 5-3 in the final frame.
  • Balch forced a turnover on the defensive end and then found Rozgonyi on the clear, who tallied his second goal of the day.
  • Chandler Hake scored his first goal of the season on a McKee assist with 6:12 to go.
  • Panthers final goal came on an unassisted effort from Ben Hornberger.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:  INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech finished with the advantage in shots (49-34), shots on goal (32-18) and ground balls (35-25).
  • Tech went 21-26 on clears while PBA went 21-25.
  • Panthers were 1-4 on man-up opportunities while PBA went 1-1.
  • PBA recorded more turnovers (23) compared to Tech's 18.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 4-0 all-time against the Sailfish.
  • Collin Stewart broke the single-season man-up goal record with 8 on the season.
  • Brian Barlotta recorded his first-career goal.
  • Sam Balch moved into second on the all-time list for career-caused turnover with 74.
