Strong Second Half Fuels Panthers Over Eckerd

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Florida Tech men's soccer team improved to 5-1-3 and 2-1-1 in SSC play after beating Eckerd 3-1 Saturday night. Fabio Amaral scored twice, while Eytor Omarsson scored his first goal in a Panther uniform.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Eckerd pressured early in the first half with a string of two shots on target in the 14th minute, but Iker Bastida came up with two big saves to keep the Tritons off the board.
  • The Panthers threatened to score just a few minutes later with a shot by Nokkvi Nokkvason, but Tritons keeper, Aiden Leak was there for the save.
  • At the half, the score remained 0-0.
  • Both teams came out of the break looking to score the first goal of the night.
  • The Panthers were aggressive, firing off four shots in the first 12 minutes.
  • In the 56th minute, a pass from Ettore Casadei to Jacopo Ghezzi found Fabio Amaral who buried a shot into the net, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
  • For the next few minutes, both teams fought for possession.
  • In the 69th minute, Filippo Fazzi dished a pass to Eytor Omarsson in the box, who deposited his shot for Tech's second goal of the night.
  • Just a few minutes later, a foul on the Panthers gave Eckerd a free kick. Luciano Rodriguez took advantage converting the free kick for the Triton's first goal of the night.
  • With just five minutes left in play, Amaral gave Tech a late cushion when he scored his second goal of the night.
  • Tech outshot Eckerd, 14-5, and an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Bastida recorded two saves, while Leak had five.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 28-9-3 in the all-time series record against Eckerd.
  • The Panthers are 16-6 at home against the Tritons.
  • Fabio Amaral scored his 6th goal of the season, the 12th of his career.
  • Eytor Omarsson scored his first goal of the season.  
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will return home next Wednesday, October 4th to continue conference play against Embry-Riddle. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.
