Volleyball Dominates, Sweeps Saint Leo

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech volleyball team dominated Saint Leo, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Clemente Center.
 
Final: Florida Tech 3, Saint Leo 0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-18)
Records: Florida Tech (11-5, 5-2 SSC), Saint Leo (4-9, 0-5 SSC)

STATS OF THE MATCH:
 
First Set:
  • The Panthers wasted no time taking a commanding lead early. Tech scored the first five points of the match before Saint Leo got on the board.
  • Tech continued to roll and a kill from Chiara Patelli put the Panthers up 8-1.
  • After a quick back and forth, Tech rattled off an 8-1 run to go up 16-5.
  • Saint Leo cut the run with two quick points but four unanswered points, including three kills from Tessa Mati, got the Panthers to 20 points first, 20-7.
  • Back-to-back errors from the Lions sealed the first set win for Tech, 25-9.
 
Second Set:
  • Tech began the second set with a 5-1 run to keep the momentum going.
  • After some back and forth, a kill from Antia Vallecas Rodriguez sparked a 5-0 run to put the Panthers up 14-5.
  • Another kill from Kearns put Tech at the 20-point mark, 20-9.
  • The teams traded a few more points before Maiella Riva put the set away with a kill from the middle, 25-12.
 
Third Set:
  • Both teams traded points to begin the third set. A Saint Leo service error gave the Panthers a 6-4 lead.
  • Mati got Tech to the 10-point mark with a kill from the outside, 10-6.
  • A quick 4-0 run a few minutes later put Tech on top, 16-9.
  • Back-to-back kills from Devyn Glassgold and Kearns put the Panthers up 20-12.
  • The Lions tried to rally back in the set, but Tech held on to secure the set three victory, 25-18, and the sweep.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 26-36 all-time against Saint Leo, including a 14-17 record at home against the Lions.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will host Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, Oct. 22 for another SSC match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Clemente Center.
