Volleyball Wins Second Match of the Weekend by Sweep

MELBOURNE, Fla. – After a massive win the night before, Florida Tech volleyball brought the momentum for a 3-0 sweep over Palm Beach Atlantic.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
First Set:
  • The Sailfish started with a 2-0 lead, but Chiara Patelli and Cordelia Kearns squashed it with back-to-back kills.
  • The kills sparked a Panthers' 5-0 run that included two kills by Kearns. Palm Beach Atlantic responded with a 3-point run, highlighted by a service ace.
  • Florida Tech extended their lead to 17-12 on a block by Lilian Muszynski. The senior slammed the ball down on a free ball at the net, forcing a Palm Beach Atlantic timeout.
  • Kaileigh Ammons on Palm Beach Atlantic tallied two straight aces to bring the Sailfish within two; however, she had an error the next serve.
  • Tech held the lead despite some pushback from Palm Beach Atlantic, winning the set 25-22. Kearns finished the set with a whopping eight kills and a .545 hitting percentage.
Second Set:
  • Palm Beach Atlantic got off to a hot start, rattling off the first four points of the second set.
  • A 4-1 run from the Panthers brought them within one, helped by three errors from the Sailfish.
  • The run continued as the Panthers added four more points than the Sailfish's one point for an 8-6 Florida Tech lead.
  • The lead changed hands throughout the middle part of the set until Tech went on a 7-1 stretch, taking the set 25-17.
Third Set:
  • Again, Sailfish grabbed the advantage to begin the set; however, the Panthers immediately tied the set at three apiece.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic did not let that stop them, as they took an early 13-6 advantage.
  • Despite being down, the Panthers did not give up, scoring six in a row to tie the set at 14-14.
  • Each team traded blows, but Tech shut the door, notching five of the last six points to win the match.
 NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Cordelia Kearns led with 18 kills, eight digs, and a block. She has tallied ten or more kills in every game this season. Her .455 hitting percentage was her best since September 7 against North Greenville.
  • Chiara Patelli tallied nine kills and five blocks.
  • Kenzie Delacher led the team with 25 assists.
 BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moved to 18-34 all-time versus Palm Beach Atlantic since 1987
  • Teams have split six meetings since the start of the 2021 season.
  • Tech is 13-17 at home against the Sailfish.
